FABRIQ To Use Serge Ferrari Fabric Roof

The making of FABRIQ into the modern, organic structure it is today has been a 40+ year journey filled with excitement and fraught with architectural obstacles.

Throughout this journey, our Founder, Bill Wesnousky, has experienced countless “setbacks,” which have later revealed themselves as gifts. As such, Wesnousky has grown fond of the saying: “Believe it or not the universe is unfolding exactly as it should,” for somehow at key moments a new and important piece of the FABRIQ tensile structure always presents itself.

FABRIQ’s exquisite exterior is made possible by a permanent, translucent, curvilinear roof, which remains one of the key components of the architecture showpiece.

To achieve this functional and majestic aesthetic, Wesnousky visited Eide Industries back in the early 2000’s to inquire whether they could perform this task, and it just so happened that Don Araiza, the President of Eide Industries, was a contemporary of Bill Moss (the fabric architect that inspired FABRIQ). They had in fact shared “the clear,” a euphemism for “martini,” which Wesnousky also happens to favor.

Initially, however, Wesnousky arranged to utilize a fabric known as Sheerfill and later opted for a fabric known as Tenara, which had a superior look and feel. But, when Tenara went out of business and the Sheerfill line was discontinued, Wesnousky felt compelled to reach back out to Don Araiza, who was thrilled to participate “after all of this time” — some 20 years later.

Eide Industries immediately suggested that we use the Serge Ferarri fabric that would meet all of the technical requirements laid out by FABRIQ’s Fabric Architect, Craig Huntington.

Serge Ferrari Group, the leading elite tensile fabric manufacturer, is well known for the likes of the world’s most exclusive hotel, the Burj Al Arab in Dubai, UAE, shown below.

Their exceptional product is at once durable and translucent, pliable and safe. It boasts outstanding resistance to UV, pollution, and harsh climate conditions, while also being PFOA-free and REACH compliant, which aligns perfectly with our FABRIQ values of offering customers best-in-class materials that are both long-lasting and light on our planet.

“It all came together at the right moment,” says Wesnousky, who continued stating that “FABRIQ is a cutting edge structure with Ferrari-like curves so the new fabric is ‘a perfect fit!’”

This latest enhancement comes shortly before the commencement of construction on our West Coast Showroom, and we look forward to inviting you to view this magnificent innovation firsthand, soon.
